Physical activity levels significantly influence nutrient needs as well. A college-aged male soccer player will have higher nutritional requirements than a sedentary classmate. Athletes require more calories, protein, and micronutrients to support energy expenditure, muscle repair, and recovery.
As our understanding of nutrition evolves, recommendations will eventually extend to people older than 85. Tailoring nutrient intake to individual needs is essential for promoting optimal health across different life stages and lifestyles. This personalized approach to nutrition acknowledges the diverse factors that influence dietary requirements, ensuring that each person receives the right balance of nutrients to support their health and well-being.
